How to use these tracing pictures
- 01Pick a drawing below. Start with the easy ones if you're new to tracing.
- 02Press Trace to see it over your paper through your phone's camera, or Print to get a tracing sheet.
- 03With the camera: prop the phone 20–30 cm above the paper, lock the picture and trace what you see on the screen.
- 04With a print: lay thin paper over it and trace against a bright window, or use your tablet as a light box.
- 05Trace the outline first, then the details. Then colour it in.
Which drawing to start with
- Easy things to trace first: a heart, a star, a house. Few lines, and every one of them closed.
- Then the cute drawings: round shapes and big faces, still simple, with a bit more detail.
- Animals and flowers next. They have more lines, so trace the outline before the fur, feathers or petals.
- Fantasy drawings and patterns last: the most detail, and the most satisfying to colour.
Printing tracing sheets
Press Print on any drawing to get a page with just the drawing on it, sized to fit. Print at 100% on A4 or Letter paper. To trace a printed sheet, put thin paper over it and hold both against a window in daylight, or lay them on a tablet in Light box mode.
Or skip the printer: Trace shows the drawing over your own paper through the camera, at any size you like, so you can trace it straight onto a sketchbook, canvas or wall.
Questions
Are these drawings free?
Yes. Trace them, print them and colour them, and use what you draw however you like. No sign-up.
Can I print them?
Yes. Press Print on any drawing to open a print-ready page with just that drawing on it.
Where do these drawings come from?
We made them for this site with the help of an AI image model, and picked the ones with the cleanest lines for tracing. New ones are added over time.
Can I trace my own picture instead?
Yes. On the home page, upload any photo or drawing and trace it the same way. For a photo, Photo to sketch turns it into clean lines first.
